Memorial Day is behind us, which means it’s the unofficial start of summer! For many, summer plans may have been altered this year. Maybe you are staying closer to home or going on a road trip instead. One thing is for certain, if you are opting for a staycation, it’s a good way to save money. Here are some ideas for having fun while staying home:

Learn More About Your Hometown
Check out your town’s website. Are there areas you aren’t familiar with? Check them out! If you have kids, it may be fun to have a scavenger hunt around town. Do you have a local drive in? Go see a movie! It’s a great way to get out of the house, explore your surroundings and get active.

Explore Different Parts of the State
If you have checked out all there is to see in your local area, explore some place new. If you live in Western CT, check out Eastern CT. It’s filled with beaches, parks and hiking trails. Do a little research online to see what is available, pack a picnic lunch and take a little road trip. You never know, you may stumble upon a hidden gem.

Make it Festive
Try making it more fun with theme days. Perhaps you have a spa day where you can do a DIY facial followed by yoga (free online videos are always available). Celebrate Christmas in July by watching movies and baking cookies. Have a camp night where you sleep in a tent, roast marshmallows and tell ghost stories. This is a great way to switch up your normal routine and make it fun.

Get Creative
Spend some time getting the creative juices flowing. Even if you aren’t the artsy type, it may be fun to try painting, pottery or drawing. There are many online tutorials available and Pinterest is a great resource too. Who knows, you may find a new hobby.

Act Like You Are Away
You are on vacation, even if it’s home. Relax, don’t worry so much about the household chores or the laundry. Turn off your phone and stay off social media for a few days. Don’t cook, order out for a few nights too.
While you are on your staycation, don’t worry about getting to your local Sikorsky Credit Union branch. Online Banking and Mobile Banking are always available. Pay bills, deposit checks and check your balance all from the convenience of your home!
