When it comes to traveling for vacation, the last thing you want is to be stressed about money and how you’re doing to afford your trip. Sticking to a budget or being mindful of your vacation spending (learn how to set a budget by clicking here) can help you keep on track with your financial goals. Having a set budget for vacation doesn’t mean you can’t have a great experience and get to see the most out of a location!

Check out our tips for saving some money and getting the most out of traveling while sticking to your budget.

Stay in an Airbnb
When it comes to where you're going to stay on vacation, often times staying in an Airbnb can be more affordable than hotels. Staying in an Airbnb likely will give you more space for less money and is a great option whether you are making a solo trip or going with your family or friends. Sometimes the hosts will even leave you with some great information on what you can do in the area and are likely only a phone call away if something happens.

Go Grocery Shopping
One of the most significant expenses of vacation is eating out for every meal. While it's a fun way to get to know your location's culture, it can add up fast and make you overspend. Going grocery shopping in your location, even for just breakfast and snack items, can help you save quite a bit and keep you on track.

Use Local Transportation
Depending on your location, you may have access to some excellent public transportation for wherever you may need to go. This option will always be cheaper than renting a car and will allow you to travel like a local. If you do your research and notice that there aren’t any great public transportation options, try to stay in an Airbnb that's in a central location, where you can walk to a lot of attractions and restaurants. When in doubt, using ride-sharing apps such as Uber or Lyft can be a great way to get around; however, depending on where you want to go, it may add up quickly.

Experience Your Location for Free
No matter where you go, there are going to be some things that you can do for entertainment that doesn't cost anything at all! Some places have free or tip-based walking tours that will take you all around the city, others have free days for museums or some open festivals that you can walk around and check out. A little research can help you save a lot on entertainment and give you a great, unique experience.

Bring a Collapsible, Reusable Water Bottle
You’ll be surprised by how much you spend on purchasing water bottles every time you’re thirsty. Purchasing a collapsible and reusable water bottle can help you save. While many places don't allow outside food and drink, you usually can find a water fountain. Bringing in a collapsible water bottle is a great way to ensure you stay hydrated and don’t break your budget.
